An 11X14 Giclee print of Revelation 19.

Here are a few notes on the piece.

  1. I tried to model the figure after an Arabic avenger. This is as opposed to the Roman depiction of Jesus that we are so familiar with. I wanted the imagery to be a little jarring to the western mindset. So, he is depicted as Arabic. This is also to highlight the concept that John was visualizing someone who would be rescuing nations from a sort of Roman emperor.
  2. The fire is shooting from His eyes but the eyes are soft and looking at the viewer. I wanted to depict judgement coming alongside a plea to repent. Jesus is not harsh, He is just. There is a difference.
  3. To the right of the painting it is lighter to the left it is darker. This is common imagery in art. One side is condemned, the other is redeemed in art imagery. I was following that tradition with the coloring. Further, the Lord is coming from the upper right to the bottom left, bringing judgement and redemption at the same time.
  4. There are saints following Him in the upper right corner.
  5. In the clouds I have hidden Hebrew words on the right and left. On the right I have hidden variations of Melech which is Hebrew for King on the left there are several variations of the word Shua, Yeshua, and Ha-shua meaning Salvation and the Lord Saves.
  6. The body is too big for the horse and is intended to be emerging from the clouds.
